CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY | TELEHEALTH + BERWICK, VIC

Psychological support that takes the full picture seriously

When life and work become difficult to carry, structured, evidence-informed therapy can help you understand what is happening - and find a considered path forward.

ABOUT MINDWISE WORKPLACE SOLUTIONS

What's happening for you doesn't exist in isolation

Work environments, life circumstances, and personal history all shape how we experience distress - and all belong in a proper clinical conversation.

I offer individual clinical psychology for adults navigating complex mental health challenges, with particular depth in work-related stress, trauma, and burnout. The approach is evidence-informed and formulation-led: I take the time to understand the full picture before deciding how to work with it.

This is properly scoped psychological care. Not a quick fix. Not a wellness program. Therapy that takes where you are, and what has contributed to it, seriously.

HOW I WORK

The therapeutic approach

Therapy at MindWise is integrative and formulation-led - the modality is chosen to fit the person and the presentation, rather than applied by default.

I draw on established, evidence-informed frameworks and work collaboratively at a pace that suits you.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. The first session is used for careful formulation and an agreed working plan - the pace is unhurried.

  • CBT

    Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Including trauma-focused CBT. A structured, evidence-informed approach that examines how thoughts, feelings, and behaviour interact - and how that cycle can shift.

  • ACT

    Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Focuses on developing psychological flexibility: the ability to respond to difficult thoughts and feelings in ways that support what matters most to you.

  • ST

    Schema Therapy

An integrative approach that explores how early experiences and patterns of thinking shape current difficulties. Particularly suited to complex or long-standing presentations.

  • EMDR

    Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

An evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD. Uses bilateral stimulation to support the processing of distressing memories.

ABOUT KATE

Working with Dr. Katharine Smith

I am a Clinical Psychologist with postgraduate training in both clinical and organisational psychology. My practice has been shaped by a long-standing interest in how work environments affect mental health - and by a conviction that good clinical care takes that context seriously, rather than treating distress as a purely individual problem.

Therapy at MindWise is meant to feel like being met, not managed. That means collaborative, paced work grounded in evidence - not surface-level support or quick fixes.

My Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Clinical Psychology, Queensland University of Technology (2008–2012)

  • Graduate Diploma in Psychological Practice (Organisational Psychology), University of Queensland (2017–2019)

  • Bachelor of Psychology with Honours, Griffith University (2004–2007)

THE PROCESS

Your first session - what to expect

Booking a first session does not commit you to anything beyond a conversation. The first appointment is used to build a picture of your situation together and agree on a working plan - the pace is deliberate and unhurried.

counter_1 Book your first session
Book directly via the online portal and complete your intake forms before the appointment. If you have trouble with the portal, email me and I will confirm your booking manually.

counter_2 Attend your appointment
A 50 minute session. A conversation - not a test or a checklist. I listen to understand your situation, your context, and what has brought you here. Nothing is locked in.

counter_3 An agreed path forward
Therapy is collaborative. Sessions typically begin weekly or fortnightly and are adjusted as needed.

All sessions are conducted via Coviu (secure video), with telephone available as a backup. Limited in-person appointments are available in the Berwick area, by arrangement.

  • No referral is required to book a session. A Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP is required if you would like to access the Medicare rebate. Without a plan, sessions are available at the full fee.

  • For many presentations, research indicates outcomes are comparable. Telehealth also removes significant geographic, mobility, and capacity-related barriers. All sessions are conducted via Coviu, a secure video platform.

  • Raising concerns about the therapeutic relationship is part of the work - it is not a problem with it. If something does not feel right, I will take that seriously. If the fit is not right, I can assist in finding more appropriate support.

  • The first session is a conversation - not a test or intake checklist. I listen to understand your situation and what has brought you here.
